Cowboys vs. Seahawks: HERE WE GO!

From what looked like a defence lead team earlier this season, has now turned into a Dak Prescott lead team. The Cowboys QB is playing MVP calibre football right now and long may it continue. Dak threw for 299 yards and 3 touchdowns, in what turned out to be a shootout between these two NFC rivals. Dallas 41 – 35 Seattle.

Ceedee Lamb was once again, the number one target for Prescott, finishing the game with 12 receptions, while Jake Ferguson continues to grow into his number one tight end role. Ferguson made big play after big play this past week, flashing signs of Travis Kelce, with the ball in his hands. Some back and forth with Seahawks safety, Jamal Adams, throughout the game, made the game-winning touchdown, that much sweeter.

The defence struggled to contain the Seattle receiving corps, who managed to move the chains very efficiently on third downs, converting 9/14. A good day had by Gino Smith and the lack of pressures forced by this Dallas pass rush, allowed for these back breaking conversions but we could only hope it wouldn’t come back to bite them. It didn’t. The offence put up 41 points and this defence stepped up when it mattered. They faced three 4th down tries and stuffed Seattle every time. Daron Bland, who had a reasonably rough day, had himself, yet another interception, which lead to a touchdown and the extra possession difference in this game.

Now, the strategy of having to score 40+ points to win, isn’t an overly sustainable one but with the offence starting to click under Mike McCarthy’s new scheme, it is nice to see them maintain this win streak with their defence playing under par. Something that looked unlikely in the first half of the season.

The return fixture awaits as the Eagles come to AT&T Stadium having just been delivered a similar beatdown as the Cowboys, against the 49ers. The Cowboys have opened up as 3.5 points favourites and recent trends would suggest this to be true. Last season, the game after facing the 49ers, teams went 0-15. This season hasn’t played out quite like that, but Philadelphia has a short week to prepare for Dallas, having just had their asses, handed to them.
If Dak continues to play the way he is playing and the offensive line holds up better than it did last time against the Eagles, this game could be a blowout. However, that isn’t how things tend to work in the NFL and the Eagles still hold the top spot in the NFC. My concern from their last meeting is that this offence wouldn’t be able to function much better, while limiting Jalen Hurts as much as they did – but still managed to lose. I am happy to say that I was wrong. This Mike McCarthy lead offence has found another gear (or two), since their last defeat and I am going into this Sunday, expecting nothing but a W. Foolish? We’ll see.
